Psychomotor development

According to childrensmn.org:

“Babies develop at their own rate, learning some skills much quicker than others. Progress also starts and stops. As some skills are learned, your baby might go back to an earlier stage in some other areas for a time.”

From 4 to 6 months, the baby is more active in his development. He is more responsive to his environment. He is becoming a little explorer.

At 4 months

  • Try to let him catch the objects when you show them.
  • He already holds things in his hands and brings them to his mouth.
  • Raise your head 90º.
  • You can put one foot on the opposite knee.

At 5 months

  • Play with their feet and hands.
  • Let them follow your gaze with moving objects.
  • You can keep your head if you keep sitting.
  • Facedown open arms and legs.
  • You pedal when you are on your back.
  • He can be turned on his side.

At 6 months

  • Objects are passed from one hand to another.
  • He grabs his feet and sucks on them.
  • When he is face down, he begins to hold himself with his hands.
  • He begins to roll over when lying down.
  • If you shake your hand, he will start to lift his head.

Baby Development Activities from 4 to 6 Months Old

1. Grab toys that are taller than he is face down

Turn the child upside down and hang a toy or hold him about 15 or 20 cm above.

In this exercise, change the position of the child or toy so that it alternates his arms.

2. The plane

Turn the child upside down and place an object that draws his attention in front of him, but out of his reach.

He will try to catch it and, when he is quite agitated, he will open his arms and legs, while arching his back.

When 20 or 30 seconds have passed, bring the toy to him so he can get it.

3. Rock

Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out and place the child face up on them. His legs have to rest on your stomach and his head on your knees.

Give your index fingers to hold on to them.

When the child is holding on to them, lie down slowly, and raise your legs high.

In this way, the child will stand on your stomach. Then sit back down to rest on your thighs.

4. Find the source of a sound

Place your child in your arms and the dad will hide behind a door, a table, the couch, … and will call him.

When the child looks in the right direction, the mom will praise him and the dad will come out of his hiding place and smile at him.

Another way is to hide and make a sound with a bell, clapping, and changing the sound. Thus, you will provoke the reaction of the little one.

5. Raise the child as a reward for his whispers

When the child murmurs, pick him up and lift him high in the air, smile at him and lower him again.

You can repeat this exercise when he mumble again. You can do this 5 to 6 times.

Instead of lifting him, you can do anything else the child likes, like giving him a toy, singing a song, etc.

Another good exercise for the development of the baby from 4 to 6 months.

Provide your child with a rubber toy that makes a sound. Thus, you will discover that, when pressed, it sounds.

The soft ones are recommended because, when pressed, they will change shape.

These are just a few of the 4-6 month baby development exercises you can do.

If you put them into practice, you will realize the progress your child will make in his development.

Take advantage of this stage when you are much more active to do activities with him/her. The difference between exercising and not exercising is considerable.
