The breastfeeding relationship you need to know about.
Are you a new mom and wondering how to establish a breastfeeding relationship with your newborn?
I’ve got you covered! Stick around till the end of this post. Because I will be sharing helpful tips on how to establish a breastfeeding relationship.
In this post, you will learn how to achieve a good and successful breastfeeding relationship with your newborn.
Let’s get started!
5 Simple Ways on How to Establish a Breastfeeding Relationship
There are some tips on how breastfeeding can be as harmonious as possible for mom and baby.
New moms face a major challenge on how to establish a breastfeeding relationship with their newborn. So here are 5 simple tips for creating a successful breastfeeding relationship.
1- Body and cuddle contact
Breastfeeding is much more than “just” nutrition, it’s like a second umbilical cord outside of your body.
It binds you and your little one and you become one again.
And to strengthen this bond, the cuddly hormone oxytocin is particularly important.
It not only promotes the mother-child relationship but also stimulates the mammary glands to produce milk.
So, breast milk is real soul food.
Concentrate completely on your baby, cancel the visit to the postpartum of family and friends and get to know your baby with skin and hair – for an intimate breastfeeding relationship.

Always by your side: a good nursing pillow that also makes cuddling easier:
To find the best nursing pillow you can go test it in-store or compare the best offers on the Internet.
The shape of the nursing pillows allow your baby to feel reassured, in comfort and this facilitates breastfeeding.
We recommend this purchase, My Brest Friend Original Nursing Posture Pillow.
This nursing pillow encourages better posture during breastfeeding, alleviating strain in your back, neck, and arms.
Using this nursing pillow also prevents the baby from rolling out of position during nursing.
This nursing pillow is available on Amazon.
2- Rest and time
It sounds so simple, but breastfeeding is anything but fast food. A breastfeeding meal can last 30 minutes or even longer.
Set up a quiet corner in the bedroom, children’s room, or living room, where your baby can drink his/her happy milk meal in peace.
The same applies to you: No distraction from cell phones or other gadgets that are in use. Your little darling will feel it immediately when you are not at it.
It also helps many babies so that they can concentrate fully on breastfeeding when the room is darkened somewhat.
You can also implement this with a burp cloth, nursing scarf, or nursing apron, which are also practical on the go.
3- Every baby is different
Every baby is different, so the ONE rule does not apply to all infants.
If your little one does not need to gain weight urgently and everything else is in good health, discuss with your healthcare provider whether you can also implement the “breastfeeding as needed”.
As the method already suggests, you only breastfeed your baby when your baby is hungry. (Again every baby is different)
For many mothers, this is a turning point in the breastfeeding relationship when the little ones give the breastfeeding tone and they no longer allow meals on the breast according to a breastfeeding plan.
4- Do not compare, allow little helpers
Milk production is still not running at full speed while you have the feeling that all your friends seem to have a good breast milk supply.
Comparing is natural, but it doesn’t help you or your baby.
Pregnancy and birth are different for all moms, so you shouldn’t compare.
Instead, look ahead and resort to breastfeeding support that can eliminate or alleviate your breastfeeding problems.
5- Get competent help for the breastfeeding relationship
Your own mom, the mother-in-law, the godmother, the maid of honor, or the new mom friends from the pregnancy yoga chat group:
Everyone will have their own opinion and experience on the subject of breastfeeding and may also give their mustard without being asked.
With such a sensitive topic, it often helps to get professional help, to which you have no personal relationship, so that you can tackle the topic completely neutrally and without reservations.
Whether the aftercare midwife, the pediatrician, or, quite traditionally, a LACTATION consultant.
They can all share their experiences and tips with you because you really are not alone if breastfeeding is not (yet) a sure-fire success with you.
